Format Randomly chosen partners talk for a set length of time Scaffolding None (can be varied) Class length 90 minutes Assessment length 5 minutes per pair (can be varied) Materials Language practice activity for students to complete during assessment phase; Marking/feedback sheet W hen your students are capable of producing a bit of con versation, a direct and classic form of assessment is to sim ply observe them talking for a few minutes and evaluate their performances on the criteria of your choice In contrast with various interview formats, in this assessment activity you’ll be in an observer’s role, out of the flow of conversation This will make it easier for you to mark performances consistently Advantages One big advantage of the Random-Partner Conversation format is its conceptual simplicity All students need to do is talk as best they can
