When I was young, my brothers and I played tennis in a local club. It was a lot of fun. We practiced once a week after school and had matches at other local clubs on Saturday mornings.

It took me a long time to realize what my students meant when they talked about gasshuku . In France very few people join clubs at school. So the idea of going somewhere and staying overnight with other club members was almost impossible for me to imagine.
